The show originated in Toronto and was called sctv. I worked in Canada during that time and used to watch it there.

Second City is a comedy improv troupe & theater started in Chicago, which later opened branches in Los Angeles and Toronto. I went to their Los Angeles theater in the 1990s.
They still have branches in all three cities according to their website
SCTV was a Canadian show, featuring members of Second City's Toronto branch.
