Georgetown [South Carolina] woman sentenced to life in prison without parole

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson announces that on Friday, June 17, a Georgetown County jury convicted a Georgetown woman of armed robbery and she was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole under the South Carolina two strikes law.

Shannon Lane Bone, 40, of Georgetown, was convicted of armed robbery Friday afternoon following a trial that began with jury selection and motions on Monday, said Liz Smith, the assistant solicitor, who along with Deputy Solicitor Alicia Richardson prosecuted the case for the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Bone was convicted of robbing the 521 Mini Mart located on Highway 521 between Andrews and Georgetown at 6:45 a.m. Dec. 31, 2017, Smith said.

Bone wore a mask and hooded shirt and presented a gun to the clerk when she took cash, cigarettes and candy from the store, reports stated.

Other employees in the store chased after the vehicle Bone left in and gave police her license tag number, which was registered to her.

Employees also realized she had been inside the store about 2 a.m. that morning. Both events were caught on the store’s surveillance camera system. She was arrested Jan. 4, 2018, in Alabama.

Because Bone had a prior conviction of attempted armed robbery from 2003 in Louisiana and served a seven-year prison sentenced, Friday’s conviction was her second strike under South Carolina’s two strikes law.

She also had convictions in South Carolina for burglary in 2001 and 2013 and a 2015 conviction of unlawful conduct toward a child. Bone also has a pending murder charge in Georgetown County and that will be scheduled for trial at a later date.

“I want to thank the jury for taking the time on this case and convicting Shannon Bone,” Smith said. “I also want to thank law enforcement for their pursuit of justice in this case."

Looks like a dude. (Big neck on a skinny body.)

Acts like a crazy dude, again and again.

I say it's a dude.

On second thought, I don’t see an Adam’s Apple. Whatever it is, it’s nuts, and I’ll pray for her or him.

On the one hand this seems like harsh and unequal treatment.

On the other hand, sooner or later this person would kill someone or at least cause someone to get killed if allowed to live outside of prison.

I hate to see the taxpayers on the hook for housing her in her nineties. For non- murder / child molester cases, I would favor letting her out at some point. 75? 80? IDK.

Needs rehabilitation help, hope she receives it in prison.

When they get life without parole, rehab hardly matters.

She should have moved out to Seattle. She would have been released on time served.

Facing a murder charge...

I didn't notice the murder charge. However,we're talking about armed robbery. Life without parole for armed robbery (with no serious injuries) is at least somewhat too harsh.OTOH,life without parole for 1st degree murder is pretty damn lenient. But it's uncertain at this point if she is,in fact, guilty.

Just sayin'...

She was willing to pull a gun on a clerk for money and cigarettes. Life without parole is not an overreach. This wasn’t shoplifting, it involved a weapon.

I absolutely concur.

Hopefully, she will find Christ and spend eternity by his side.

But Christ forgiving sins in no way excuses her crimes. The thief beside him on cross spends eternity in heaven, but it did not excuse his crimes on earth.

Career of crime spanning at least 2 decades. Society is better off with her off the street. The next time an innocent very well may loose his life.
