Some times people forget bail/bond is only there to make sure someone shows up for court.
Anything above that is a punishment and there fore excessive.

Right. The question here is whether or not this guy should be given a bond in the first place. Seeing as he didn’t show up for his last hearing, there should have been no bond. Keep him locked up until trial.
