Not in my area.
Your landfill.
China used to collect our recycleables but since then stopped.
Old shoes:
Insoles ... trash
Laces ... save
Shoe... recycling
I’m sure.
We pay them. They put it on barges, take it out to sea, and dump it in the ocean.
I put them in my Recycle Box, right next to my Tesla. No need to worry about the pizza box, since I’ve done my part, and if it’s shipped off to Bangladesh to be burned for energy, why should I care, since I’ve done my part.
Thus I can walk around hold my nose up at my neighbors who are making the summer really hot here in Texas. They simply DO NOT CARE.
I fill up whichever bin is closes to my walk to the trash &/or whichever is easiest. Regardless of whatever I am carrying is trash, recyclable, or green.
They can sort it out as they wish.
A pox on you and scofflaws like you. I worked at a landfill that also turned green waste into compost (alleged compost). People like you were dumping all kinds of crap, including transmissions and axles, in their green waste cans. When one of those hit the shredder's blades it would trash an $800,000 machine, costing upwards of $100,000 to fix it. Even full-time crews couldn't keep up with scanning the green waste for contaminants, and it cost $100's of thousands of dollars in additional manpower for that screening. They finally figured out it was cheaper to hire inspectors to go around prior to the pick up and check the green waste cans for contamination and fine the homeowner. It eventually made a noticeable difference in the crap, but just made the whole recycling program less efficient (not that it was a good use of resources anyway, but why make it a bigger problem than it already is?)
Pizza boxes would go into the burn cage where it turns into bio-char (fancy word for ashes) which are then placed on the garden area.
There is nothing leftists won’t eventually demand of us. Recycle? Yes. Recycle pizza boxes? Yes. Recycle toilet paper? Wait’l tomorrow.
I’m surprised the greenies haven’t banned pizza boxes.
If the box had a frozen pizza covered in plastic, the box is recyclable. If there was a cooked pizza in the box (such as you get from a pizzeria) then the box is usually greasy and will not be recycled.
In packaging engineering we learned recycled paper was subject to grease spots or shiners. The recycled paper is of less value than virgin paper.
Perhaps the best solution I saw which does not involve trash sorting is to heat waste until it gasifies then produce synthesis gas from the results...basically you are taking the material back to a form of natural gas and synthesizing polymers from there.
Exactly. Fire pit or wood burner depending on time of year....
The people who are the most fervent recyclers are also the most ignorant orange to the business of recycling. If a trailer load of recyclables is worth more to a recycler than it is compared to the cost of sending it to the dump, it goes the recycler. If not, it goes to the dump. There is no altruism or save the world effort here, it’s purely a matter of $$$.
That’s the reason why some municipities insist on rinsed glass, clean paper, etc.. the trash people want to fetch a higher price than garbage.
Recyclers charge different rates because they have to do more sorting/cleaning/processing, but they can recycle all of it if they wanted to. They also want to make a profit, so if there isn’t much of a market for recycled glass, they stop taking glass for a while. Since the only place that pays for storage is the city for taking stuff to the dump, off to the dump it goes.
Recycling and waste processing could be run much better in many localities, but there’s a lot of profit to be made by the existing operators and often some big barriers to entry for disruptors. Probably the biggest is that hippies, while often quite smelly, don’t like sorting and storing actual garbage and few of them can drive truck.
Opened, they are great for changing oil under your car.
Closed, they are also great for a seat when sitting on mud or greasy oily places.
I quit recycling 15 years ago when the recycling crew tried to stage an intervention for me. Stop looking at my bottle consumption...
Pro pineapple. Canadian bacon and pineapple is my favorite. The empty box goes in the trash.
They either get recycled or dumped...Either way, they are gone, gone, gone...
Gone meaning maybe 20 miles from your home in a hole/mound that keeps getting bigger. Then another will have to be dug. Just saying.
Yep...My pizza box caused them to have to dig another hole...I am so proud.....
