I have been taking a variety of Vitamins, Minerals and other Supplements for over 50 years. I am currently a healthy 83 and only taking 75 mg, Levothyroxin in the pharmaceutical category. I recognized some of the medication you are taking, but wonder what they are ALL supposed to accomplish.

I first noticed Nystatin, which is specific for candida albicans. The best way to get rid of candida is to go on a very low carbohydrate diet. The candida then die, but while dying scream FEED ME, FEED ME, so it is important to resist that for the week it takes most of them to die. The worse your candida is, the louder they will scream at you. You can use the Atkins diet, especially the first phase to find what is suitable food. You can also read labels and make sure you don’t eat more than 20 grams of carbohydrate a day. Thus no bread, potato, rice, cookies, chips (except cucumber chips), cake, candy, or fruit and fruit juices. Basically, fish, foul, meat and eggs, and low carb vegetables like celery, lettuce, kale, cucumbers, etc. Modest amounts of olive oil, butter, and sunflower seed oils are usable. Many salad dressings have only 2 grams of carbs for 2 tablespoons, but others are much higher. If you get a basic Atkins diet book it lists carb values for many foods, as well as tasty low carb meals.

Since candida causes many different ills, you may find that you will need a lot less of your other medicines if you can get rid of candida. Your doctor should work with you to remove or lower medications as your health improves with candida removal.

Regarding supplements, I see Centrum Silver Multi-Vitamins, but you should be taking a Vitamin/Mineral one daily formula, perhaps morning and evening. I use Walmart’s Equate which has a formula similar to Centrum, but less expensive. I see you have Vitamin C 1000 mg. (1 gram). Dr. Robert Cathcart (Google him) suggests that normally healthy people should take 4 grams a day taking 1 gram every six hours. I have been taking 4 to 7 grams a day for over 50 years for my allergies—house dust, molds, and cigarette smoke among others. One of his links has a table of high doses which can be used for a number of different illnesses.

Feel free to Private Reply to me if you wish to share more information or ask questions. I am currently doing internet searches for Colorectal and Prostate cancer for 2 friends.

Some of the questions I had when I read your Comment #3 are now answered. Your health seems to be moving in the right direction, but without your height it is a little hard to know what the ideal weight should be. They very low carb Atkins type diet may eliminate your diabetes completely. I know people who have done this. Vitamin C taken 4 times a day may help your COPD. I think I would have developed Asthma if I had not storted the level I have taken of C for 50+ years. I hope you will be able to eliminate a number of your medications as you continue to eat well and loose weight. Keep up the good work.

I deceided to do some research on height/weight ratios for men and women. It has gotten a lot more complex since we had the simple charts prepared by insurance companies as explained in the first link below. Each of the 2 links below covers a somewhat different way of approaching ideal weight.

Since you don’t say if you are a man or a woman, I conjecture that if a woman you could still loose a bit more weight, especially if not very muscular and physically active. So far as the carbs are concerned I would still urge you to discuss doing the Atkins style very low carb diet for a few weeks to see if you can eliminate need for the fungicide Nystatin. As I said before, candida and probably other fungal conditions will be very angry if you try to starve them to death. Surely you will not let a microscopic organism tell you what to do. Usually one week of strict carb reduction is long enough to shut them up. When I was doing strict carb dieting my sweetheart took me for a birthday dinner at Red Lobster. I had the mixed lobster tail and steak with broccoli and a ceasar salad. I dipped my lobster in melted butter, poured some on the broccoli, and had a low carb salad dressing on the salad. By that time I was several weeks into the low carb diet, had already lost 10 pounds, and was able to resist those tempting biscuits.

Remember since Nystatin is probably treating a condition that often causes a number of other health issues, you may find you can stop a number of other medicines too, while working with your doctor.

My own experience with weight has been varied. At 5”5” I maintained a weight of about 123 lbs. from 16 to 30. At one period of high physical stress I dropped to 118 lbs. After having children I was stable at 130 for a number of years. After a ten year period of caring for my mother while she died at home (her wish), helping clean up my father’s messy estate, and caring for my husband with Alzheimers until he died at home (his wish) I had climbed to 165 lbs. He had developed the behavior of waking at 4 am and wanting to go out and walk the city streets. He was 5’11”, 200 lbs. and I would sometimes have to wrestle him back into bed. Fortunately he was not a hitter. After he died I modified my diet and dropped to 155 lbs. after one year. Then I read Atkins and brought my weight down to the 130s, which several times has crept up to 150 when I have been under various stressful situations. However, returning to low carbs has made it possible for me to drop down to the 130s in a few months.

While not big boned, I have always been muscular and even at 80 installed an 8’8” by 22’ metal roof on my beach cottage porch roof. I had help lifting the wooden panel underlayment and the metal sheets onto the roof, but did the rest myself. I also walk behind and push the gas mower to mow the 1/4 acre lawn there avery 3 weeks at age 83. According to one of the guidelines listed in a link above, I should weigh 115 lbs now that I have shrunk to 5’3”. At that thinness I would have no fat reserves to protect me in a severe illness, so I think I will stick with the 130s.

I like your tree message. I have been inspired to plant trees. I now have a bearing fig tree I enjoy (not low carb unfortunately), and several young trees I want to plant.
