When should I fit exercise within my schedule? For most, the answer depends on our family's schedule and working hours. Recent findings suggest that the effectiveness of exercise depends on the time of day (Exercise Time Of Day, ETOD).
Now, a randomized controlled trial not only confirms convincingly that ETOD affects the effectiveness of exercise, but also shows that these effects differ between types of exercise, and between women and men.
Investigator Dr. Paul J Arciero, said: "Here we show for the first time that for women, exercise during the morning reduces belly fat and blood pressure, whereas evening exercise in women increases upper body muscular strength, power, and endurance, and improves overall mood and nutritional satiety."
"We also show that for men, evening exercise lowers blood pressure, the risk of heart disease, and feelings of fatigue, and burns more fat, compared to morning exercise."
But crucially, they also show that ETOD determines the strength of improvements in physical performance, body composition, cardiometabolic health, and mood.
For example, all female participants reduced their total body fat, abdominal and hip fat, and blood pressure over the trial, but these improvements were greater in morning-exercising women. Only evening-exercising men showed a decrease in their ratio of total to HDL cholesterol, blood pressure, respiratory exchange ratio, and carbohydrate oxidation, as fat became the preferred fuel source.
"Based on our findings, women interested in reducing belly fat and blood pressure, while at the same time increase leg muscle power should consider exercising in the morning. However, women interested in gaining upper body muscle strength, power and endurance, as well as improving overall mood state and food intake, evening exercise is the preferred choice," said Arciero.
"Conversely, evening exercise is ideal for men interested in improving heart and metabolic health, as well as emotional well-being."

Best time to exercise?
I’d say between 13 and 17.
Just keep the weight down. The rest will take care of itself. Rocket science-right?
I’m a woman and I work 40 hours a week so I exercise either at noon or at 5 pm. Off to walk the dog now…
what about a man who transitioned to a woman? LOL
you mean your body doesn’t care what you “identify” as? your body is obviously a homophobe!!@!
lol
Don’t start unless you are committed to continuing for life. Being in shape/healthy five years ago doesn’t count for much.
If someone chooses not to aim for health then I say indulge.. don’t torture yourself.
When I was going through boot camp (’69) we tended to get our initial work outs done in the early morning....mid morning...afternoon....late afternoon....evenings...
I weigh the same today as I did then.
Not quite as lean but just as mean.
:-)
What will be my exercise regimen if I tell my SO that recommendation?
Sprints.
When I die I don’t want to be the healthiest dead man in the room.
I want people to say “we never thought he’d last this long”
(Snicker,snicker)
Nestle wants you to take two servings of 600 mg glycine/600 mg NAC a day, giving you 1,200 mg glycine & 1,200 mg of NAC, a day.
I hadn't read their directions—just their serving information. Nestle does say they found the therapeutic response with two servings a day to be good, though.
The drink version has 1,200 of each in just one packet.
I love exercising in the morning (5-6am start for an hour or two). Initially I thought I’d hate it and I did for the first two weeks or so. After that it was great.
Afterwards, I’d go about my day feeling invigorated and free to do what I wanted without thinking that I still needed to hit the gym later in the day sometime.
Often, I would go back for a two-a-day should the feeling strike me any particular day.
Thanks!
The only way to avoid the aches and pain of getting older is to endure the aches and pains of vigorous exercise.
With exercise you get 6 more years in the old folks home.
I'm the oldest and I outlived my sibs. I've got one cousin still standing who is fit and eight years younger. We'll see, Mike. One of us will, that is.
Vitamins too.
Although it never leaves the mind that no one is guaranteed even one more breath.
