I too grew up on south side...Calumet High School. Wife from north side. Worked for city as a lifeguard on Lake Michigan when young. Worked in loop for 17 years. All that ended with retirement several decades ago. I loved Chicago over the years. That’s over. I despise it now. Rotten corrupt government. Understaffed demoralized police department the members of which simply..and justifiably..don’t give a shit anymore. I have a CCW and still wouldn’t go anywhere near it. Expensive as hell too.
