And never fill a gas can unless it’s grounded. Saw a dude light himself up putting gasoline in cans while in the back of his truck. Static electricity can kill.

There’s never been a
confirmed case of a cell phone causing a fire from gas vapors at a gas pump. The majority of non-impact gas pump vapor fires are caused by smoking and by static electricity— often generated by people (usually women) getting in and out of their cars while pumping gas. When they return to remove the nozzle, the static electricity transfers from their hands to the gas vapors surrounding the fill port and WHOOSH! you’re a flaming hors d'oeuvre.
Note that most gas pumps (except in certain parts of the country or various chain stations) do not have warnings against cell phone use due to gas vapors. The ones that do are because of CYA.
