For the record, as well, we have three indoor rescue cats—all healthy and very spoiled.
“In cities survival against rats.”
Well, cats in the cities are mostly still kept indoors, while the rats get free subway passes and dine on 5 star restaurant food. I think the rats are winning.
Now I can add it to the list of reasons I don't want to live in Florida again. Ā Once was enough, and just like San Antonio, TX, the Air Force sent me there.
Question: Ā What keeps Florida from falling off the CONUS and sinking into the ocean?
Answer: Ā Florida sux.
Number one on the list is invasive sand in everything, including a sandwich.
I feed some of the feral cats in my neighborhood because they keep the roof rat population down.
Sent to friends.
Well crafted...

The one in the first Leonardo da Vinci sketch looks like a lion.
OMG those cats are absolutely beautiful, they are also big kitties!! I have to ask is the coat really thick close to the skin!! I had a cat Big Boy he was a HUGE cat apricot in color, very long fur but his fur close to the skin was extremely thick I spent so much time brushing him if I didnāt his fur would mat!! I LOVED that boy so much had him for 19 and a half years such a mellow cat!! I replaced him with a Rag Doll who has very long fur but it is like bunny fur so much easier to care for!! My other baby is a feral that was abandoned by her mom I found her in my yard had to bottle feed her!! The feral NEVER leaves them it is in their genes she has NEVER been outside, she is now 18 years old but has NEVER been a loving pet, has a real mean streak in her that I believe is the feral gene in her!! When she passes I would love to look into getting a Norwegian Forest what gorgeous kitties they are!!
A major “songbird-migration flyway” follows the Florida Keys.
First stop: Key West.
Home to 40,000 cats!

A domestic cat with a constantly full belly doesn’t need to make a risk assessment before it stalks a bird or rodent. Wild animals must weigh the caloric expenditure of the chase against the risk of coming up empty.
A domestic outside cat can run, catch, kill, and maim all day and night without risk.
I read decades ago about the wildlife, especially birds, they kill. I rank them #1 of invasive species that should be eradicated.
Outdoor catz is dangerus!
*************
I still shudder in horror at the memories of the herds of wild cats that roamed our small town, every night after sundown, slaughtering any and all poor innocent people caught out of doors in the dark.
Oh, wait. That didn’t happen.
So...
It’s about the rats!
Won’t you think of the rats?!!?
Rat Lives Matter!
I admire them from afar. Their looks, their attitudes. Lovely. But I haven’t the time for a pet.
Here in PA, they are everywhere outdoors, crossing the street...you never see a dead one, btw. Hanging out, making a spectacle of their love lives. Feral ones meet me at my gate, meow their demands, and keep a safe distance even if I’ve regularly fed them for years. Fine with me, I don’t need their affection plus fleas, T. gondii, etc.
My friends have associate cats who live with them and find me appealing, and I’ll watch a cat video as readily as anyone.
Kin who own a farm keep barn cats outdoors, to deal with vermin that leave filth in the horses’ meals. Even the horses are fond of the cats, provided nobody makes any sudden moves.
There’s a place for cats in this world, and it’s not in the wild.
And they are sweet (or good at faking it). They are beautiful, which is not nothing.
That said, if I ever do get a pet, it’ll be a big dog. Not so gorgeous, but loyal and loving and ready to kill for me.
:)
I wonder if the wee one had po’d the putty...
Someone once posted that having a cat in the house is like owning a work of art that pukes on the carpet.
Well, you’re right, but still: keep your cat indoors.
All of my cats have been indoor cats, so there is that.
But then what do we feed the Filipinos to?
We have two cats who were born and raised in a barn

Same here. Those two tabbies happily take care of the barn vermin. But they are vulnerable to roaming tomcats, who beat them up, eat their food, and pee everywhere in the barns. So we make sure that any tomcats are sent. . . onward. There is nothing good about a feral tomcat.
Keep your personal cats in house. In my neighborhood, last year there were at least six feral cats I caught on my trail camera. One female in particular, had three litters in the span of two years until she disappeared last year. I have no idea what happened to her kittens. Hopefully a coyote got them rather than being run over in the road which one of them was in front of my house.
Any cat owner willing to allow their feline friend free access to the outdoors should be willing to accept their deaths by poisoning, shooting, trapping or getting run over by a car.
