“My husband says they’re very good eating.”
It’s not too bad, fine as survival food. Had a lot from Taco Trucks over the years.
I like cats and I’m certainly not in favor of banning them but you’re fooling yourself if you don’t think they have a major impact on the wildlife.
I have enough problems just being old. I don’t need any animal to care for. In the country cats are necessary to keep the mice, rats and snakes away from the homestead. In towns, not so much. In cities survival against rats.
“the most threatening of invasive species.”
Kudzu is not going to give up the belt that easily.
did you really read my first sentence??
i said they DID!!
“I’m sure the Florida legislature would like the exotic pet industry to pay to rid our state of undesirable imported critters.”
Exotic? Imported? Undesirable?
Try domestic regular kitties and puppies and bunnies from brick and mortar pet shops. County calls them “puppy mills” etc. At least, in MouseLand.
Deadline is approaching for law to take effect.
“This is actually true. I like cats, but they’ve always got slaughter on their minds. If you could hear what your cat is thinking you’d probably kick him out of the house.”
Cat owners know that they are just trying to figure out how to eat us. And if we stop moving long enough, they will.
My never-been-outside cat tried to get a bird at the bird feeder today. Through the window the bird feeder is attached to. Bounced off the glass. It’s a second floor window. Hilarious.
Cats make Cat Ladies. With Toxoplasmosis Gondii.
sorry I was speaking in general agreement
Cat Ladies hardest hit.
Get married young and start having children instead of sleeping around and climbing the career ladder in your 20s.
You win the thread.
Agreed. I have three Norwegian Forest cats, one is a kitten not yet 10 months old, and they are strictly indoors as I believe all cats should be.
I also feed birds and you cannot imagine what I have had to endure with a neighbor’s free roaming cat that killed so many birds, one other cat that has disappeared finally. Caught that one on my camera tearing a gorgeous male cardinal to shreds making him suffer as it took its time over a half hour devouring it. I still think about it and wish I’d have seen it live on camera so I may have been able to save it.
My neighbors cat died, yes, as much as I love cats that made me happy, so now I’m down to one cat that is constantly hanging out stalking my birds.
For my neighbor I researched ways to help save the birds and learned outdoor cats kill over 2 BILLION backyard birds a year! Pretty significant number.
Just for fun if you would like to see photos of my cats here’s a link to their Instagram account, @HouseOfMew:

Feed the carp to the cats, then feed the cats to the pythons, then feed the pythons to the Filipinos.

Ah, get real. The “The worst, most dangerous, most destructive invasive species?” are Mexicans and others coming across our southern border. But what do we expect when we leave the door open with a very well-known welcome message?
We have a cat who chose to stay indoors after we moved to the country. We have two cats who were born and raised in a barn and who now are happily living in our big shop. They go outside when they want. They are neutered, chipped, have had all their shots and get wormed regularly. There are two of them, litter mates, and they keep an eye out for each other. Our dog has trained them to run really fast and to go up trees. They take care of the mice and rats on our farm which is why they are domesticated in the first place. We live on a road where rush hour consists of about five cars.
For the record, I love cats.

“Some of my best friends are cats.”
My wife’s uncle used to sit on his back porch in Price, Utah and take care of the feral cat population with his .22 rifle. With over 100 cats buried in the ground he had one of the most productive garden plots in the town.
Our cats are indoor/outdoor and they are killers. But… they kill rats and gophers in addition to birds, and we still seem to have the same type and amount of birds as ever, so for us, it’s a win.
