Naomi Judd shot herself with a gun a day before she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, her heartbroken daughter has revealed.
The singer killed herself with the firearm at her Tennessee farm on April 30 aged 76 after battling her mental health, Ashley told Good Morning America on Thursday.
Ashley choked back tears as she drip-fed more details about the iconic singer's suicide last month in her first television interview on the tragedy.
She and her sister Wynonna - who performed with Naomi for years in The Judds - first open up about her death at the Country Music Hall of Fame ceremony on May 1.
Meanwhile widowed husband Larry Strickland released a short statement asking for privacy, adding they were going through a 'heartbreaking time'.

they had the option of trying to keep this all under wraps. at her age they could have just said she died peacefully in her sleep. I am sure it could have been contained.
Naomi was honest about her troubles with mental illness so I get why they would be open about it. Just seems like fans could have been left with a better image of Naomi instead of a gun splattered head.
I agree. Gun Control is where this whole thing is going to end up. Who bought the gun for a person suffering from severe depression is what needs to be investigated.

The article pushed me over the cynic edge with the phrase “drip fed” details. Yah, drama queen has to drama queen.
Naomi shot herself with a handgun because she had demons she couldn’t face anymore. That sentence should have been the family comment.

But if they knew her state of mind, I would have guessed they would keep firearms away from her. Maybe they did and she found a way anyway.
Agreed, Naomi was a professional nurse for many years and she could have easily used an overdose of common medication or gotten into a car in her garage and with the garage door closed and the driver’s window open turned over the engine and breathed in the fumes.
Yes. She’s reported to have mental illness by her daughter so in that case it would be a good idea to make sure she had no access to a firearm.
Mental illness is what caused her to act this way. If it wasn’t a gun it would’ve been something else.
