To: Celerity

The woman simply would not move from the couch, ever. She never left the house due to some kind of social anexiety.

She had something else wrong with her besides autism but for some reason she would not leave the house or get up off the couch.

I think at some point the parents should have called an ambulance, oh about several years ago but I also think they were doing their best. I believe they didn’t know what to do. I would not know what to do.

I know there are people here with a kid with autism, what do you do in this kind of situation?

She probably had severe autism.

At some point you would have to get legal guardianship and have her moved to a facility, perhaps a nursing home, where she could get the care she needed. That doesn’t happen automatically even with her autism and other issues. I’m not justifying the condition she was in but they were doubtless far beyond the end of their ropes.
