“So, if you continue to fight YOUR dismissal, but will not defend me against mine, I believe you should at the very least be caned. I really need an answer from you. If you think I should have been fired for conservative commentary and you, being yourself, were discussing what I consider to be completely the opposite (open, flaming immorality), I then would have to advocate for you to be hanged. Let’s talk.”
I was threatened with dismissal from an online economics class for my “conservative ideology.” I went back over the exchange which went like this. A woman with an “advanced degree” (didn’t say for what) was “forced” to take only $12 for hour at the local Walmart in her tiny Midwest town because it was the only job available. But she felt that they should pay her more because she had an “advanced degree.” My response was she applied for a job that paid $12 per hour and therefore set the rate she would accept and what Walmart would pay. If Walmart had no use for her advanced degree than it had no value to them and they shouldn’t be forced to pay for it. If she wanted to be paid for it than she should move to an area where it was in greater demand. The response was no one should have to move in order to get a job. Seriously. I got a phone call from the professor and he was angry with my “conservative values.”
