I know of three direct ancestors who died in 1817 in an area hard-hit by famine--at least one of them died of starvation and probably the other two as well (the parish records for that village are lost so I don't have a cause of death for them).

Something like 300,000 people died in Ireland as a result of the Year without a Summer. (The ancestors I just referred to didn't live in Ireland...but I had ancestors living in Ireland too at that time, just don't know if any of them died of starvation.)

Yeah the problem with their “theory” is that after large volcanic eruption’s there were years that never had a summer there was one in early 1800s there were several time. There are several Times that happened

Yep here a ‘scholarly’ paper on basaltic lava floods that does not even mention the Siberian or Deccan Traps - the million year long lava floods on Earth.

The notion that lava floods cause climate warming again becomes a problem when people die of starvation in those times of violent volcanic activity. When those same periods record record cold temperatures, dark skies and plant death, how is that warming?

However, in reality both the great lava floods on Earth occurred millions of years before any human is supposed to have walked the Earth.

Sounds like the people that wrote the paper believe all changes in climate cause warming. Like any hint of cooling will destroy the entire meme.

Please sent more grant money, or beg your Congress critter to give NASA more money, as the people that work there are financially suffering and need your help, so they can continue to live in the life style they would like to become accustomed to and crank out more ‘scholarly’ papers so they can beg for ...

It depends on where on the globe the eruption takes place, what’s thrown out and how much for how long abd how high, what the climate conditions are at the time, and different areas can see different effects.
