Expert Reveals the Scientific Method to a Perfect Cup of Tea

Nothing beats a good cup of tea.

Whether it’s morning, noon or night, a cuppa makes everything better.

As most British people understand, the making of a cup of tea is an art form.

It is seriously difficult to get right.

And now, one expert has shared the scientifically correct way to make a brew.

However, his method may divide opinion.

Dr Andrew Stapley, of Loughborough University, is a chemical engineer who has undertaken important research to find the perfect cup of tea.

In news that may disgust the nation, Dr Stapley says you should make your tea with the milk poured in first.

Dr Stapley found that if you pour milk into a hot tea, the milk will heat unevenly which will cause the proteins in your milk to alter their natural quality.

This is the main cause of floaty bits that sometimes appear at the top of your cup.

This also causes the milk to lose its flavour in the tea-making process.

The research also revealed that pouring milk into the cup before the hot water can help to prevent hard water, as the proteins in the milk can lower the mineral content of your water and bring back the flavour to an otherwise mediocre brew.

While the science may say differently, we think we will stick to the method we know and love.

Hot water poured in first and a splash of milk afterward, thank you very much.

Do you have a story to share?

The casein in milk neutralizes the beneficial antioxidants.

What kind of teabag do you use for a perfect cup of tea? Store brand, or Lipton?

I never put milk in it. I don’t drink black tea, either. Also, some areas drink it scalding hot, which causes health issues.

Well, ideally, you use loose leaf tea, then put it in bags or a teal ball, etc.

Hong Kong’s famous milk-tea, a Chinese-South Asian derivative of British tea, includes boiling the tea with egg-shells and dried dates, and filtering it while pouring it back and forth (for aeration) through a woman’s stocking (preferably not used...)

with condensed milk and sugar added.

Costco has something called Boba Milk Tea Mochi. I had no idea what it was but decided to try it. I ate all of them..but then again..I even managed to get down that Tan Hue Vien Banh Pia Hopia Cake with Durian. If I paid for it I am going to eat it...but I had to freeze those to eat them.

My wife swears by King Cole tea. I have to send to Canada for it, but she says it’s worth it.

Sounds like a lot of work.

People generally don't make it at home. There are thousands of small stands and breakfast shops who make it everyone morning for morning commuters and workers. Its very strong - a 19th century energy-drink equivalent, preferred by coolies doing hard labor

A former Canadian-worker brought back plenty for personal consumption. My Canadian wife is happy with Red Rose, so I made the official tea of my church's coffee and doughnut get together after Mass. (Coffee is Lifeboat Columbian Supremo).

put it in bags or a teal ball, etc.

The balls we've seen are all silver or brass-colored. Where do we find teal balls?

That “Kula Shaker” video looks like it was inspired by “The Marty Feldman Comedy Machine”.
