Umm, C’mon. Google ADMITS that Chrome has 30 some odd security defects and says that the FIX is to update it — by the same bunch of obvious morons who released it with multiple defects.
No, I don’t expect perfection. But, I will not play the game of endless updates: by the same incompetent morons and updates that of course include more defects.
This is just like what M$ did for decades. An endless cycle of new operating systems that required new hardware, that required an update to the OS — puke.
Make yourself happy with a browser and freeze it. Companies that don’t like your browser — tell them they just lost a customer, you will go over to Amazon who/what doesn’t care what browser you use so long as they get your $$.
Thanks to SunkenCiv for the ping!
I understand your frustration very well, but IMO that's bad advice in the case of a browser.
It's one thing to "freeze" an operating system so that it still supports older applications, or because you like the interface better than the new releases. I do that myself.
But not if the system is used on the internet. Browsers by definition are used on the internet.
The unpatched flaws in the old "frozen" browser make you an easy target for malware.
Do as you please with your own systems, it's still a pretty free country, and to each their own. YMMV.
But I would not advise anybody to use an old version of a browser to access the internet. It's crazy risky these days.
I have a laptop that I use exclusively for music production. I employ a guitar synthesizer that talks to the computer via midi and uses Chrome as the interface (for some reason Chrome is the only browser that you can use this way). This gives me convenient access to my synthesizer for program and parameter changes via touchscreen. I use it for only that purpose and choose other browsers for song lyrics, etc. I also do not use this machine for sensitive access (banks, etc).
I think I’m safe for now ;’}
I’ve been trying to find a Windows installation of Chromium. Is there such a thing?
Nevermind, found it.
