As I recall it tends to migrate right through the tank
material. Maybe they have something new to build them
out of.

Hydrogen molecules are EXTREMELY small.

Not unlike COVID19 being contained by T-Shirt woven/knot cloth.

It’s a [small?] problem.

I have read that hydrogen is a good bonder to substances like borax, which might be a method that can be used to carry hydrogen.

Indeed. There are tons of materials issues that are well known. Metals become brittle, among other things.
