Breaking...Alaska Congressman Don Young Has Died

Alaska U.S. Rep. Don Young has died, former aides said on Friday. Details were not immediately available.

Young, a Republican, had served in Congress since 1973, when he was sworn in after winning a special election.

Young was the longest-serving member of the U.S. House, was in his 25th term and running for a 26th.

He was his state’s sole member of the House for more than three-fourths of the time Alaska has been a state.

Successors are not appointed to the house. There has to be an election.

I expect Democrats are going to be in a cat fight to see who runs for his seat. No idea who the Republican candidate will be. At least the sordid ranked voting that was foisted upon us will not go into effect before the special election.

That doesn't go into effect until the August primary and a special election will be held long before that.

You are correct:
Article 1, section 2, clause 4:
“When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.”
