Crossing state lines would be the issue in this case as you mentioned. It does seem typically the feds get involved in murder on Indian reservations or in the case of terrorism.

This sounds like a civil suit though. How much did the Petito family spend trying to find Gabby? That might be recoverable. Also the money from the ATM might be recoverable.
That’s if they can prove the parents knew.
