Climbing in such weather conditions ought to be cause for abandonment on the mountain if something goes wrong. Sorry, but I lost friends who died getting two idiots off of Mount Washington in New Hampshire in the '80s.

Seriously...if ever there was an “at your own risk” warning, it belongs here.

It does seem really really stupid to go mountain climbing in the winter.

I am still amazed to see how quickly the weather can change on Mount Washington and how quickly things can go wrong for the unprepared.
It doesn’t sound like your friend was amongst this group. I’m sorry that you lost someone tragically there.

I'm normally loathe to bureaucrats and more red tape, but I'll make an exception here. Climbers need to sign a waiver before they start a climb, bad weather or good.

Most dangerous thing I ever did was going to Airborne School at Fort Benning. Jumped out of perfectly good airplanes five times, as well as a simulated jump from one of the 250 foot towers, into very soft sand.

Never had time to enjoy the scenery during those jumps. We jumped at 1200 feet, when the chute deployed you were at 800 feet, and surrounded by upwards of 50 of your classmates, an equal number were above, below, to the left and to the right of you...or so it seemed, lol.
