Maybe if Oz didnt go full jackboot more people in the world would take interest in stories like this.

Bringing them back? Not a good idea. I’m already married to one.
To: SJackson
There are apparently occasional hints that there might still be a tiny population of these things lurking out in the wilderness.
I’d love to see the study detailing how this creature will fit back into the ecosystem.

“Just last year, one group claimed to have spotted the “Tassie tiger” padding through Australia’s forests. The claims were never verified.”
There’s a very good possibility that the natural resources people there are aware of live Thylacines but are keeping it on the down-low to protect them.

I'd vote in favor of simply turning these things loose in their former habitat - they've probably been displaced by other predators, but humans have introduced new species into areas they've never lived in for centuries, and we're still doing it. Re-introducing a native animal into the habitat it evolved in should not be controversial.
Of course, they probably won't do this.

With all the feral rabbits in Australia, I assume these guys would be well-fed.

That was the Tasmanian Devil, another marsupial, but one which is not extinct.

I’d love to see the study detailing how this creature will fit back into the ecosystem. Camels, cats, rabbits and God knows how many other imported species fit into Oz's ecosystem.
An extirpated species would probably fit in, too.

So you bring back an extinct apex predator and release it into the wild. What could go wrong?
