After a three week absence which ran from Feb 5 to 19, I'm back.
Some FReepers will celebrate my return. Others will feel differently :)
Long story short, I live out in the country in Aiken County, SC. Nearest neighbors are 1/4 mile away and we don't communicate that much.
Due to the remote location, there is no "wired Internet" out here. I chose to use my cell phone's Hotspot to connect to my home computer and the cell tower located about .75 mile from here.
This worked fine for 4+ years. I use the Internet A LOT to keep up with happenings. Don't watch TV. Don't own a TV, etc.
On Feb 5 this year my hotspot connected to the computer just as always. But for some reason it wouldn't connect to the cell tower. Thus endeth upchuck's connection to FR.
Now the Hotspot is working properly again and I'm back to harass my FReeper friends. I manage several ping lists and pings will start again when appropriate. Sure is nice to be home again.
Welcome back. I say that assuming you are not a “Never Trumper”.
I had a HotSpot unit die on me a year or so ago.
I was surprised as most electronics works great well after it is obsolete.
Was your Hot Spot 3G only?
I don’t do vanities.

Interesting. Did you figure out why you were disconnected? I bet that a lot of rural folks use the telephone network for data.
It’s a good thing! Maybe things can get back to normal now.
Howdy! Welcome back. :)
Any chance the HotSpot will go down again?
I will never be a “Never Trumper”. I am very much looking forward to President Donald J. Trump leading our great country again and bringing sanity back to the greatest nation this world has ever seen.
what upchuck... 😁...
It might not be a bad thing to be isolated and off-grid. But only check periodically to monitor the outside world.
Terribly sorry to hear about your hotspot problem. Must have been intensely frustrating, but you triumphed over Tech! YES!
My cell phone and hotspot are LTE 4G.
I understand 3G is on it’s way out. I know several folks who have had to upgrade their cell and flip phones to 4G because of 3G’s obsolescence.
Welcome home...
After a lot of “political” hassle, a tech discovered some settings deep in the bowels of the phone were set wrong. Correcting this fixed the problem. Sorry it took so long.
Ya. Telephone technology is moving quickly. But it is usually stable for a couple of years until they move on to the next thing.
Also, the newer, higher speed telephone networks have shorter ranges. That might be an issue in the future.
I wonder how much of a telephone network’s business is from rural customers? If a lot, then that would drive the business forward and with it support.
Welcome back.
You must really far off the beaten path as 19-5=14 and a week around most parts is 7 days. That’s two weeks for us here in rural Missouri.
I know things go at a slower rate in the south.
Cool.
Left off, I don’t know why the settings were suddenly wrong. Software glitch I guess.
