In all fairness, we have to remember that property taxes are LOCAL taxes. Specifically, the fund the county, the school districts, and the city or other local agencies (e.g. transit).

They are not state taxes. The state gets its funds from the sales tax and franchise taxes and a hodgepodge of other taxes.

What counties charge in Taxes is totally controled by the state.

In the last year I paid $6,000 to the state in Robinhood payments. That is more than My entire Tax bill 15 years ago.

The counties don’t decide they can “ONLY” raise properties taxes 10% EVCERY YEAR on a house that has ZERO improvements and hasn’t been sold. That is over 70% in five years.

It should be 2% and that is all on Abbott being out of touch and being drunk on other peoples money.
