Abbott sent the nat. guard to the border so they could stand around and do nothing. It was just for show

Probably none would totally do away with property taxes entirely, regardless of what they say.

The Governor doesn’t control your property taxes; those are controlled and assessed locally by each County and school district.

Abbott is a weak-kneed talker. Go with Huffines or the colonel.

I would happily vote for Gohmert,

Ghomert is the man. He's the only TX politician I know of who has spent time trying to free the political prisoners in DC.

which challenger to Abbott would get rid of property taxes and go to a consumption tax, sooner than within 10 years?

None.

The Texas Governor has very limited power, much less than in most states. His primary powers are to appoint executive officials and members of various state boards, commissions and councils (most of which require confirmation by the Texas Senate), to call special sessions of the Legislature, and to sign or veto any legislation that is passed.

The Texas Legislature only meets for five months every other year. Any special sessions are usually only called by the Governor at the end of a regular session to vote on a few bills that didn't make it to a final vote. We get 'em in and get 'em out before they have time to do any serious damage.

Also, most substantive changes to Texas law require an amendment to the Texas Constitution (now almost 300 pages long), which must first be passed by 2/3 of each house of the Legislature and then by approved by a majority of the voters in a statewide election.

I’ll be leaving in about 10 min to vote for West and Gohmert. Paxton is good but has too much baggage for Dems to not drag through the mud. Gohmert is willing to risk all just to replace a flawed candidate. Abbott has his finger in the air 24/7. I just hate Trump threw his hat in Abbott’s corner so early.

The state has capped property tax rates at $2.50 per $100 valuation.

Cool.

So if a Californian buys the $500K house next door for $1.2M, my $600K house is Now worth $1.4M and my Property tax goes from $15K to $35K a year (over 3 years, of course.

If you want to turn a state Blue, this is how you do it.

People who say it isn't the Governor's Fault, can Keep saying that to the new Democrat Governor when I sell my house to a Californian and move to a cheaper state with all of the other working upper middle class.
