A pilot study funded by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that could potentially lead to changes to blood donor eligibility for men who have sex with men is underway and seeking participants in 8 U.S. cities.
The ADVANCE study , which stands for Assessing Donor Variability And New Concepts in Eligibility, is focused on evaluating alternatives to the FDA's blood donor time-based deferral policy for men who have sex with men (MSM).

The ADVANCE study is a first step in providing data that will help the FDA determine if a blood donor history questionnaire (DHQ) based on individual risk could be as effective as the time-based deferral in reducing the risk of HIV among gay and bisexual men who present to donate blood.

There are already risk factors abundantly apparent. Men who have sex with men are 20x more likely to be exposed to HIV than the general public. "Gay" status has nothing to do with it.

People from Europe that might, might somehow be prion carriers can’t give blood, but those with the behaviors of known HIV carriers can? Madness! I say reserve those blood donations strictly for FDA and CDC and NIH employees past and present, no one else. And definitely NOT the general populace!
I totally agree! I have been the recipient of blood transfusions, and I don’t even want to think about having tainted blood piped into me.
I don’t know if it’s nationwide, but I DO know that there is a blood shortage in my area. Our local blood bank has been beating the drums for donors.
It sounds like they are thinking about relaxing the standards, maybe?
I just thought of this: all of those people coming across our southern border-
it’s another way for them to make a few extra bucks periodically.

“Blood shortages” are largely staged because blood banks are businesses; they need blood to make money. Don’t believe the fake narrative.

And what about the blood that’s been donated by people who had the jab?

The blood donor questionnaire, for as long as I can remember, has asked a male donor the question of whether he has had sex with another male. Whether they allow the donor to donate or what they do with the blood if the answer is ‘yes,’ I have no idea.
Close, but it asks if you have had sex with another man since 1977 (purportedly year "0" for HIV in the U.S.) So, it wasn't technically a "blanket ban" of gay men.
Thankfully (for now,) blood centers are allowed to be more restrictive about who they will allow to donate blood, but cannot be less restrictive than the FDA allows. The major blood collection center in my Texas city still includes the original question about EVER having sex with another man since 1977. I'm sure these policies will soon not be allowed.

Long time ago I donated blood for a surgery my mom was having and was there if she needed more. She needed none of it. I used to donate often at work site drives. Unfortunately can’t donate since 2007. lymphoma is a permanent ban.
