Just a point of clarification. You used the term “theory”. You do understand that theory is the highest level of proof in science? Did you mean hypothesis?

Can that string theory be used for Lotto?

Didn’t Sheldon Cooper have a nervous breakdown because his thesis regarding supersymmetry was debunked?

Key word....”THEORY”
~~~~
You don’t have to see a theory work to prove that it’s a law. You make a model, then test it thoroughly. If the model survives all tests then the theory is true, and it’s a law.
No, I meant theory.
As compared to a law, which describes how an observed phenomena works, a theory attempts to explain why.
The common example is the law of gravity, which state how objects interact, while theories are trying to explain why.
String theory is trying to us why the universe exists, not how it does.
Nutshell.
Unless new evidence or information is found, then the model may or may not still be valid and if not, then your law is disproved and your peer reviewed work is file thirteened.
The simple nature of a body of knowledge, aka, “science”.
Newton’s proved that gravity is a force. Then Einstein proved that gravity is a space/time field. Did Einstein’s model disprove Newton’s model? Absolutely not. Newton’s formulas are calculous, and are still used heavily. Newton’s and Einstein’s models are both 100% correct. They just describe gravity in separate terms.
When, not if, someone completely defines gravity in terms of super symmetry and/or quantum mechanics then that model will also be correct. I suspect that model will incorporate dark energy.
We don’t disagree.
Until the specious “something nonexistent did something because it had to” drums start beating, then I run for the cover of sanity....
I’d settle for a subtle, profound and accurate “ we don’t know, yet, but we’re open to what all observation suggests” response.
Regards
the problem with string theory is that there’s no way to experimentally verify any of its since most of it is outside the four dimensions we inhabit. and those dimensions may or may not exist. Further, their existance is unverifiable. In short, the scientists have created flying pink elephants.
