The guy was well off, financially, being a top doctor and health official in a neighboring state- not a state position, he worked for a privately run health system. Also an amateur astronomer.

someone who had successfully climbed Everest was in my living room! He made two more attempts, one he had to abort (not enough oxygen), and the last one successful. I wish he couldā€™ve stayed and told a few stories.

All the books I've ever read about Everest climbs (and some were deliberately harrowing), sounded as though the experience is anything but satisfying. The climb is a near-death experience, regardless of how careful you are. It's not about getting to the summit; it's about surviving.

And it's quite pricey, too!

Keep in mind that there are several 8000m high peaks around Everest.

There's an interesting documentary (14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible on either Netflix or Amazon about a climber that did 14 of these peak within a seven month period. It's a pretty incredible feat, and that included making a few additional trips up to rescue two rescue people during that time.

It's as good as a "trick question" because the IIS photo isn't oriented with north at the top. North in the photo is about 1:30 o'clock.

FREE photo hosting by Host Pic.Org - Free Image Picture Photo Hosting

This image is oriented to north.
