How about this, Senator Cruz: You are supposed to be a hot-shot prosecutor. Why don’t you have this kind of conversation:

CRUZ: Why don’t you know about this, then?
SANBORN (FBI): Nobody told me.
CRUZ: Really? You are the Executive Assistant Director, National Security Branch. Why would this be withheld from you?
SANBORN (FBI): I didn’t have this job when the events took place.
CRUZ: Ohhh. I see. So, this took place on January 6th, 2021. How long have you been working at the FBI?
SANBORN (FBI): Since 1998.
CRUZ: Uh huh. What was your job role on January 6th, 2021?
SANBORN (FBI): I was FBI Assistant Director of the Counterterrorism Division in 2020.
CRUZ: You held the role of Assistant Director of the Counterterrorism Division on January 6th, 2021?
SANBORN (FBI): Yes.
CRUZ: And you were completely in the dark about projected “terrorist threats” on January 6th, 2021 when our “democracy was under domestic terrorist attack” as an “insurrection” took place on our soil?
SANBORN (FBI): Yes.
CRUZ: In your role as Assistant Director of the Counterterrorism Division, a very important sounding role, I might add, would you have been EXPECTED to know about these threats of terrorism, foreign or domestic, and the status of any FBI operations, including the presence of FBI agents and informants to interdict any hostile?
SANBORN (FBI): Yes, I suppose.
CRUZ: You suppose? Would that be a “Yes” or “No”?
SANBORN (FBI): Yes.
CRUZ: So. You would have been expected to know about those operations on that day, given your role?
SANBORN (FBI): Well, that...

CRUZ: Yet you state you did not know. Is that a reflection of your competency, or lack thereof?

CRUZ: If it wasn’t your lack of competency, was your boss incompetent, or were the agents under you incompetent?

CRUZ: Ah. It doesn’t reflect on your boss, or those who reported to you. Then, it must be the FBI as a whole that is incompetent?

If nobody is at fault, and given your job title, would you be able to find out what FBI operations were in place that day, what FBI agents were directing them in the field, and what informants, if any, were involved and report directly back to this committee in the next session?

She can’t answer it because the answer is “yes,” and that would blow a gaping hole in the narrative they’ve been laying. Even worse, it would let the whole country know that the FBI is a rogue organization.
And the answer to Senator Cruz, the Ivy League lawyer and championship debater, who argued before the Supreme Court and thus would instantly jump on this opening to ask that exact follow-up question is .... ?
