I’m guessing that there are no years in recorded history that do not have weather anomalies some place around the world.
The major difference is that anything that happens almost anywhere on Earth is known about within minutes or hours everywhere else. A hurricane, tornado or snowstorm thousands of miles away is news. Back in the 1800s you wouldn’t know about such events more than a few counties away until long after the fact. Galveston would be news, but hundreds of tornadoes touching down on the little populated Great Plains would not.
