The powergrid isn’t ready for them and no one wants them.
Some people have bought into the hyoe and actually want them. These are people who only drive short distances.
Look at a thruway gas station. say 24 pumps with the average fill up time of 3 minutes to pump the gas and an average of another 5 minutes because of those who pay/shop/etc inside. so 8 minutes. There have been times when I was traveling when all the pumps were full and i had to wait a few minutes for one to free up. Now look at what happens if you go electric and take 40 minutes to get a charge.
YOU NEED 5 TIMES as many charging stations as you had pumps so from 24 pumps you need 120 charging stations just to get the same throughput - Now where do you put these charging stations. I've never seen a gas station with room for another 120 pumps (Except Bucee's) PLUS you'll need a small substation just to handle the electrical demand (or I guess you could have a diesel generator at each charging station.) And that's just one of the problems with EVs
