Meet the Bigfoot experts who took Jeff Goldblum Sasquatch hunting on Mount Shasta for Disney Plus
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Nov. 12, 2021 | Julie Tremaine

Not Bigfoot. He and his wife Dana, professional paranormal investigators, have spent countless hours in the woods searching for the mythic Sasquatch in their careers. What he couldn’t believe was that Jeff Goldblum, the multi-hyphenate renaissance man who’s experiencing a late-career renaissance of his own, was asking for the Newkirks to take him Bigfoot hunting for his Disney Plus show.

On “The World According to Jeff Goldblum,” the actor takes a deep dive into one seemingly familiar topic for each episode. On the first season, which aired in late 2019 and early 2020 and earned an Emmy nomination for outstanding hosted nonfiction series, the actor explored things like tattoos, sneakers and ice cream. For season two, the first five episodes of which drop today on Disney Plus, he’s exploring topics like fireworks, magic and — this is where the Newkirks come in — monsters.

“At first glance, no matter what, most people always think the existence of Bigfoot is weird and strange,” Greg Newkirk said, “but the more you actually dig into Bigfoot and the legends and experiences that people had, you realize that Bigfoot is much weirder than you initially thought.”

The thing is, the Newkirks aren’t traditional Bigfoot hunters like the cryptozoologists (those who study legendary animals like the Loch Ness Monster and the Yeti) who appear on shows like “Expedition Bigfoot,” traversing the woods looking for physical evidence of cryptids.

Love Jeff Goldblum. Great guy. I see him in some scary movies I watched in the 1970s when I was a kid, and he always made an impression. I’m happy for him he now has a family.

One time I was in the woods, walking along what I thought was a deer trail, and the first thing I noticed was this terrible odor. There were some loud, stomping noises or something. I was afraid to go further but I did anyway, and there was Jeff Goldblum. He looked at me with eyes that seemed intelligent, but he was relieving himself and I ran like hell. Never been so scared.

Survivor Man (Les Stroud) had some weird encounters and ended up doing some Bigfoot episodes. To me, Bigfoot is an interesting topic and makes for some great stories. I think it is real, perhaps.

I know a lady that had some odd experiences, and taped the sounds of the Bigfoot over several days in the forest behind her home. Of course at some point the kids used the tape to record an FM radio album and it was lost. (?) (I recall my mom had spent big money back in the day to have all the old reel films (1950’s to 60’s) of the family put onto VCR tape. One of the cousin’s borrowed it. Her kids recorded some show over it all!)

I hope that definitive evidence is never found.

Back in the day, Pandas were a mythical creature (”man-bear” or something). But then scientists were able to learn what they were.

What fun is there in that!?

Me too! I remember watching him in the remake of "Invasion of the body snatchers" in the theater in the late 1970s which was a great movie, one that to this day I believe 100% was a metaphor for the rise of communism. Leonard Nimoy aka Mr. Spock was also in that movie as was Donald Sutherland. And if I remember correctly, in that movie they also mandated everyone get a shot just like....TODAY!

Yes, here it is, one scene in the movie where they are holding the victims while Mr.Spock the commie prepares to give them a shot. What a tremendous movie that is.

Yes, he was in one other scary movie like The Sentinel that came on TV when I was a kid, not a huge part, but I recognized him, later.

Then he played Ichabod Crane in some TV movie in 1979, I think was the year. I think his first, huge break came in, “The Fly” when he was married to Gina Davis.

I need to watch The Body Snatchers. I know it’s been around forever, but I never got around to watching it.

Best cult movie ever involving Jeff Goldblum:

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension

John Lithgow also stars.

Totally hilarious SF movie. My son recently came across a DVD of it. It is sitting on my desk at home, I intend to watch again.

He’s a household name here with Jurassic Park and The Lost World. My son was an infant when we went to see the first movie, (my mom babysat) and I could see the chemistry between him and Laura Dern. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out in real life.

But what’s the Bigfoot/paranormal connection (as in the Skinwalker Ranch portals)?

If Bigfoot were out there professional hunter/trackers would find, if not Bigfoot, it’s spoor. Plain and simple.

LOL! Sure that wasn't Robert Downey Jr. before rehab?

If I were Goldblum I'd drive around with the vanity plate "Freak #1", from his first big break in "Death Wish" raping Hope Lange.

It was awesome. Lithgow, Robocop, Doc Brown, Ellen Barkin... And Goldblum as a costume cowboy, freaking hilarious!

One of my all-time favs.
