I reached O-3 in the Navy, and your assessment makes sense. On a lark, I decided to look up General Patton's first appointment to Colonel.

There, he met Army Chief of Staff George C. Marshall, who was so impressed with him that Marshall considered Patton a prime candidate for promotion to general. In peacetime, though, he would remain a colonel to remain eligible to command a regiment.
But I'm sure what Marshall noticed was Patton's knowledge and command of the facts of war, which he demonstrated in his personal bravery and command in battle action in World War I:
Around 9 AM, Patton was wounded while leading six men and a tank in an attack on German machine guns near the town of Cheppy. Patton commanded the battle from a shell hole for another hour before being evacuated. Sorry, but couldn’t disagree more. Deadly attack as used in this article implies that the protesters were deadly in their “attack”. Also, the handling of BLM/Antifa attacks were just that: attacks on police and innocent bystanders who did nothing but try to protect their property. By the BLM/Antifa standards, the Jan 6 protesters should not have even been arrested.
