The red and white clad OSU fans were a perfect background for a tribute to the greatest Canadian band of all time.

Their song “The Trees” is a perfect metaphor to what is occurring in western society. The envious are intent on destroying the producers and creating a situation where the government will impose coercive “equality”.

THE TREES

AVAILABLE ON HEMISPHERES

Music: Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson
Lyrics: Neil Peart

There is unrest in the Forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the Maples want more sunlight
And the Oaks ignore their pleas.

The trouble with the Maples
(And they’re quite convinced they’re right)
They say the Oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light

But the Oaks can’t help their feelings
If they like the way they’re made
And they wonder why the Maples
Can’t be happy in their shade?

There is trouble in the Forest
And the creatures all have fled
As the Maples scream ‘Oppression!’
And the Oaks, just shake their heads

So the Maples formed a Union
And demanded equal rights
‘The Oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light’

Now there’s no more Oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet,
Axe,
And saw…

When Rush toured back in the 70s with KISS, Alex and Ace served as the entertainment offstage while on the road. If you knew anything about Ace Frehley, you know what I am talking about. If I had an official favorite guitarists list, both would be in my top 10.

Rush is one of the few bands that didn’t just put out songs, but released compositions. Zep did the same. And it wasn’t lyrics about partying and screwing around. Any band that can pull off a sound like they had, with three musicians, needs to be recognized.

Speaking of Zeppelin, everyone knows the UGA Bulldogs use Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love riff during games?

I get that...I would classify The Rolling Stones and The Who as entertainers, because I simply don’t recall them making public political statements (they may have, and I just missed it, and that doesn’t count The Rolling Stones telling Trump not to use their music, I see that as their right)

U2 and Springsteen, however, are in a different class for me.

That said, I never even saw the ones you mentioned in their halftime appearances. I think around 1990 or thereabouts may have been the last one I actually watched. After that, I would go out to where someone was grilling and shoot the breeze until it was over, so I never even saw them.

This is one of my favorites, and to my mind, it had a distinctly American bent to it even though I know they are talking about the first world vs. the third world. This does not portray Canadians or Europeans. It seems to be Americans it portrays. Or at least what America used to be.

New World Man
*************

He’s a rebel and a runner
He’s a signal turning green
He’s a restless young romantic
Wants to run the big machine
He’s got a problem with his poisons
But you know he’ll find a cure

He’s cleaning up the systems
To keep his nature pure
Learning to match the beat of the old-world man
Learning to catch the heat of the third-world man

He’s got to make his own mistakes
And learn to mend the mess he makes
He’s old enough to know what’s right
And young enough not to choose it
He’s noble enough to win the world
But weak enough to lose it

He’s a new-world man

He’s a radio receiver
Tuned to factories and farms
He’s a writer and ranger and a young boy bearing arms
He’s got a problem with his powers
His weapons on patrol
He’s got to walk a fine line
And keep his self-control

Trying to save the day for the old-world man
Trying to pave the way for the third-world man

He’s not concerned with yesterday
He knows constant change is here today
He’s noble enough to know what’s right
But weak enough not to choose it
He’s wise enough to win the world
But fool enough to lose it

He’s a new-world man
Learning to match the beat of the old-world man
He’s learning to catch the heat of the third-world man
He’s a new world man
He’s a new world man

IMO Tom Petty had the best halftime show, and I’m a diehard Who fan.

“ Almost guaranteed, as they are quite conservative.”

Uh, no.

Geddy Lee is quite the liberal. Check out to the lyrics to “The Trees” or some interviews.

I am not sure if Mr Lee is conservative or liberal, but the lyrics to ‘The Trees’ are an indictment of communism.

Hmm. I loved Prince’s show a few years ago. Thought he was the epitome of a pro, going on in a pouring rainstorm & performing perfectly. Class, talent, & guts.

Neil Peart wrote the lyrics for Rush. A one time, he was a Ayn Rand fan.

Sigh. I can’t say after I stopped watching whether they were good or bad. There was something about the way the shows were put together that just strongly turned me off.

Heck. I guess right around 1990 or so is around the time I stopped listening to new music and began plumbing music from the past even more, jazz, classical, big band, etc.

I even got into The Andrews Sisters for a while...so I guess it was me who jumped off, not society.

I see “Rush”, I think Limbaugh. Disappointed.

The formations of the man on the motorcycle (Neal Peart’s favorite personal escape), and the drummer were fantastic tributes to an absolute legend.

Especially the motorcycle bit leads me to believe the Band Master is a Rush fan.

Taking the entire show in sum — I’m really impressed.

I have watched a lot of Super Bowls (Being an ex-Patriots fan and ex-NFL fan) but...I stopped watching Super Bowl halftime shows decades ago. I find them absolutely 100% nauseating and repulsive.

What, you didn't like "The Weeknd", LOL, never heard of them myself.
