Gorillas normally live to be 40 yrs old in the wild and more in captivity. Wonder what caused her illness.

Quite a situation at the park:
Eastern DR Congo, where Virunga is located, is mired in conflict between the government and various armed groups. Some of these armed groups are based in the park, where they often poach animals.
Our zoo had a gorilla die this week. I wonder if there’s an ape flu going around.

Those rangers are heroic. They have revolutionaries trying to kill them, too, not just poaching the critters that live on the preserve. This guy you can tell is all about his job. He’s very brave and compassionate.
