I don’t know that is true. I live in FLorida. I had to go renew my drivers license for the the “real” license that was put into law a few years ago. If I remember correctly, you had to have one of these “real” ID’s in order to fly. I had to have my birth certificate, SS card, marriage license to prove my married name and a bill or other piece of mail with my name and address to prove where I lived. It was ridiculous.
The expired driver's license has a picture on it, and a bill, r several of them should prove that you have lived at that address for some time.
It was also additional revenue for the state.
When I went to get my “real” license they wouldn’t accept my orig marriage license (which is what the state based their info on), nor my orig birth cert (told them “those are my feet”).
