George Frayne, best known under his alias as Commander Cody and leader of the group Commander Cody and His Planet Lost Airmen, died yesterday at age 77 following a battle with cancer.
"Early this morning, as I lay my head upon his shoulder, George’s soul took to flight," his wife confirmed in a Facebook post, noting that a pair of memorial events will be planned for both the East and West coasts. "I am heartbroken and weary, and I know your hearts break, too. Thank you so much for all the love you gave and the stories you shared."

My pappy said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln."
Saw him open for the Jefferson Starship in 1975. His band kicked their ass. Live at the Amradillo Headquarters was one of the best live albums of all time.
“Beat me Daddy, eight to the bar.” Some them live twice back in the day, once in a small theatre, once in a bar.
Tell St. Peter at the Pearly Gate
That you hate to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette
“Some them” s/b “Saw them.” %$#!@@!#!
Down to seeds and stems again blues. RIP.

Steal from them, or let them steal from YOU!”
RIP Commander. Thanks for the memories. Schaefer music festival at Wollman Rink in NY great times great music. George was a lifeguard on Long Beach NY in his younger days. We ended up hanging out with him one night there after a show. A true character.
Bill Kirchen on guitar! Saw them often in Northern VA
Schaefer yes. For a couple of dollars a ticket. CC RIP.
I believe I saw the same tour at Diablo Stadium in Tempe, AZ that summer. Flo and Eddie and the Turtles opened, then CCLPA followed, with Starship starting late, after sunset. It was a memorable concert!
“There’s a whole lotta things that I ain’t done, but I ain’t never had too much fun!”
Saw them in 74 in NYC Central Park. Great show from what I can remember:-)
“Talked” that song on many great stages in the old days, Sahara, Gold Dust, Palomino Club, Yacht Club and others.
That was the original white rap song......
Written by millennials. The band was the Lost Planet Airmen.
BTW...It’s “lost Planet Airmen”...Not “Planet Lost Airmen”...
Man, I thought he would be older than 77.
Rest In Peace.
The only tune I know to associate with him is “Hot Rod Lincoln,” but it’s one of my favorites of all time and a great rockin’ song.
