Where is Brian Laundrie? Here is where John Walsh says tips lead

After receiving about 500 tips from viewers, John Walsh, host of “In Pursuit With John Walsh” on the Investigation Discovery network, believes he has narrowed down the list of possible locations Brian Laundrie could be.

“We had at least three times more phone calls than we’ve had on any fugitive.” Walsh said.

In just three seasons of his show, Walsh has helped authorities capture 26 fugitives and locate eight missing children. He covered the Gabby Petito investigation on his show this week.

“We haven’t had this much attention since Elizabeth Smart,” Walsh said.

Walsh said the tips he has received lead him to three possible locations: Mexico, the Bahamas and the Appalachian Trail.

Walsh’s theory, which he said some of his tips also point to, is that Laundrie’s father or parents drove him Northwest over the Florida Panhandle toward Mexico.

‘Now she is a star’: Friends remember Gabby Petito as Brian Laundrie manhunt continues “I think they bought this guy nine days,” Walsh said. “He had a big head start so I say now with all the chaos at the border — I caught 45 guys in Mexico — they drove him north, over the Panhandle.”

He also says he received tips that Laundrie had been seen in Freeport in the Bahamas and that he had bragged about previously living for three months on the Appalachian Trail.

Mexico, the Bahamas or the Appalachian Trail. Sounds like they have his location narrowed down to Planet Earth.

- How was he NOT a person of interest from the get-go?

- Why did the local police (under-staffed or not - could have gotten help from County Sheriffs), not at least keep a pair of eyes on him and his parents from the start?

- Parents are not "uber-rich", they seem to be normal middle-class folk - how the heck did they all bamboozle Law Enforcement with relatively limited resources? (Help from some one in LE?)

- When exactly were the FBI brought in? This is an interstate crime - isn't that one of their functions?

The point is they need to start looking in other places. He never went to the swamp. His parents and the lawyer bought him 9 days. Police look incredibly stupid searching an area he never went to!

Wow who would have thought it’s cheaper to fly round trip.from.Toronto to Moscow than inside the USA to Hawaii and back. That show so how much taxes and fees the fedzilla is adding to airfares. I just googled flights from YYZ to SVO cheapest is under $600 that’s crazy.

Russia has no extradition with the USA you can get from Toronto to Moscow if.France is not looking for you while you change planes.

If he was smart he would have gone south to Mexico by land to Mexico City then hop to Moscow direct no stops MEX to SVO under a grand “round trip” you have to have a round trip ticket or Russia will not let you leave the airport.

Having dome some traveling in my day...but never having been a fugitive from the law...I think that once the FBI puts a notice in their computer that you're wanted you'll be detected at any port of entry anywhere in the world.

That would be true in first world countries that actually care what the USA thinks and does. Having walked into Mexico across the knee deep river for lunch tacos multiple times from the big bend area while doing fieldwork no one on either side of the border so much as came over to check what we were doing. I also have crosses via a hand pulled ferry across the Rio too many times to count. Never once was checked by policia nor CBP our southern border is wide open. That said I have flown to Cabo, Cancun, and Mexico City walked in with a hand filled out form in Spanish through the nongringo line where you must speak Spanish to just one person who if you are olive skinned and speak Spanish just walked right by never once showed my Texas DL or blue passport. Nor were my bags ever checked like the gringo line.

I have been all over Africa if you have money you walk in no questions asked no visa no passport stamps $20 to $50 in “visa” is all you need those countries don’t have digital scanners let alone print outs of “international” wanted man lol Africa looking for a wayward American please I haven’t had a good laugh in a while. South Africa checks passports but at the land crossings leaving SA I have never needed to show anything they see a white and a friendly tip and you are on your way.

Russia won’t hold a US flagged person at their airport unless it’s a major international incident and they want to curry world favor they simply don’t care what the USA legal system thinks. The world is large and lots of places off the beaten path with sufficient funding one could disappear into. Russia would be my choice given my geology, hydrology, and soil science background off books contract work would be easy to get or just bribe a official in Siberia or one of the stans to get you Russian ID papers and move on with a new identity. If this kid has a little funding and some smarts he would be gone for good.

I would think that fleeing the country only makes sense if one is long trying to hide, and is looking to live openly as a fugitive in a country that won’t extradite you to the U.S. — like Roman Polanski or Edward Snowden, for example.

Crossing a border increases your odds of coming under the scrutiny of government officials exponentially. Living in “plain sight” right here in the U.S. — as either a homeless vagrant or under a fake identity — is probably your best bet.
