Situation awareness was not a factor in this situation. The woman (victim) on the escalator verbally confronted the girly-punk that pushed past her instead of just ignoring him. She knew he was there. The result was she got kicked down the moving stairs and no amount of situation awareness would have saved her at that point as she decided, right or wrong, to confront the guy.

Not sure if that woman was a local or a tourist but most locals know better than to demand politeness from the vermin that surround them. Demanding that somebody say "excuse me" can be fighting words in any part of the country.

Of course, I'm not excusing in any way the violent actions of this punk - I hope he gets the book thrown at him.
