Are you talking NOVA, or the rest of the state?
I had to get out
Of SoCal and Prescott
Presented A Spot and
That is what it is.
Arizona tags, Drivers License and Clear title to
A little outpost in my pocket.
I’m heading out there
Today with load #5,,,
Who’s counting,,,
A Tank of gas to get there
In 8 hours,
I am trudging forward.
San Diego has been home
for 40 years and I’m
Mad As Hell to leave.
Bad list since Colorado wasn’t on it. Taxes and ‘fees’ are skyrocketing. A simple car can be $1,3000 to register.
Simply go where you are WANTED. Expenses are secondary. Use the collective brain power of the crowd you meet to decide. You will know.
Unless you are a conservative, don’t come to Florida.
We will feed you to the gators.
This has been a PSA.

1. I looked at the source (Bankrate), and at the sources the source used. You can throw out the “Wellness” and the “Culture” rankings. A. The source for the “Wellness” ranking has all Dim states in the top 10 - talk about biased methodology. B. The source for the “culture” ranking uses numbers of what it considers “culture” establishments, per capita and retirees per capita. (a). What people like as far as taste in culture is VERY subjective, and (b) many states are attractive to people NOT for their restaurants, museums, art galleries or other “culture” venues, but for their fantastic outdoors environment in terms of how scenic it is and how you can get out and just enjoy it.
2. Notice how Idaho is ranked in the top 25 in affordability, but falls to 10th place due to the very biased “wellness” and “culture” scores given it.
Affordability is maybe the only rankings from Bankrate I might recommend a retiree use.
Based on affordability alone, this would be the rankings:
Tennessee 1
Oklahoma 2
Georgia 3
Missouri 3
Texas 3
Mississippi 6
Indiana 7
Alabama 8
South Carolina 9
New Mexico 10
Louisiana 11
North Carolina 11
Michigan 13
Florida 14
Kentucky 14
Arizona 16
Wyoming 17
South Dakota 18
Arkansas 19
Ohio 19
West Virginia 21
Idaho 22
North Dakota 23
Kansas 24
Alaska 25
Nebraska 26
Utah 26
Colorado 28
Iowa 29
Nevada 30
Virginia 30
Wisconsin 30
Montana 33
Illinois 34
Pennsylvania 35
Washington 36
Delaware 37
New Hampshire 37
Minnesota 39
Maine 40
Oregon 41
Massachusetts 42
New Jersey 43
New York 44
Rhode Island 44
Vermont 46
Maryland 47
California 48
Connecticut 49
Hawaii 50
Nice thing about WV there are no big urban centers for your state taxes to support.
I live in NOVA, so that is where the majority of Virginians I have run across live. And I’m counting the ones that were actually born in Virginia, not ones that moved here from elsewhere.
I moved from Maryland to Florida and saved a lot of money. Somethings like dairy, meats, landscaping, and water were way more expensive then Maryland.
“warmer states tend to be better for the elderly to live better and live longer”
I don’t know. I just finished mowing for 3 hours in South Alabama. Temp is 96 and humidity is 943 percent. I’m pretty sure I’m dying.
No Regrets,
Good Job!
Northern Virginia, it’s not just taxes, it’s the cost of living—paying $300k for a townhouse in a crappy neighborhood and still living 30 miles from work.
Sad that even the natives have turned woke, then.
I had some work that required being physically onsite between 2009 and 2014. I pulled my Harley to San Diego behind my F150. The F150 was parked except for grocery runs. I did all my commuting on the Harley...1300 miles a month. Far more cost effective than driving the F150.
You should be in Sturgis!
Seen a dozen groups of Bike s heading East on
Highway 8!
I’m passing Yuma right now.
Here, we have ticks, chiggers, wasps, scorpions, rattlesnakes... BUT, at least, you don’t find many leftists. I thank God for that!
I saw the same thing in va and nc... it’s like some insidious infection, A CANCER!
Oh! I agree with you whole heartedly. It seemed to me that the rot had extended from the northern states into va and nc and had halted quite a bit at South Carolina. Of course, the “snow-birds” from the northeast flee the high taxes they voted for to nest in Florida, bringing with them all their leftist politics. NOT GOOD NEWS FOR Florida! One would think they would learn. But, they don’t! They simply crap one bed and move on to crap in another. They’re like locusts, they destroy one place and move on to another.
