The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced Tuesday that it had fined a passenger $10,500 for refusing to wear a face mask during a February flight.
In a press release, the agency said that a passenger had taken an Allegiant Air flight on Feb. 27 going from Provo, Utah, to Mesa, Ariz., and allegedly refused to wear the mask properly over both his nose and mouth.
"Flight attendants instructed him seven separate times to wear his facemask properly, and each time he moved it off of his nose after the flight attendant walked away," the release said.
"When told that he needed to cooperate and provide information to fill out a passenger disturbance report, he argued with the flight attendant, refused to provide his identification, said he would continue to pull his facemask down, and claimed that it was fine just over his mouth," the release continued.
The FAA said after the flight touched down, the passenger walked up to the flight attendant from behind as she was about to open the door to the cabin and touched her, asserting that she was being "aggressive about the facemask policy," according to the release, noting that the passenger's actions made the attendant cry.
The penalty is one of several the FAA announced on Tuesday, which were taken as part of its zero tolerance campaign over unruly passenger behavior. In its Tuesday announcement, the agency said it had fined nine passengers in situations where passengers refused to wear a face mask, consumed alcohol they had brought onto the plane and assaulted passengers or flight crew.
The agency fined the nine passengers $119,000 in total, with fines ranging from $7,500 to $21,500.

Thanks, I’ll take all these ideas into consideration.
Read 49 USC 46301 and 14 CFR § 13.14.
Wearing a mask for one airline flight shouldn’t be a health hazard. You obviously don’t have granddaughters who live far away!
We do have relatives that live far away.
The masks are a form of state control over our lives that I find unacceptable given the real risks of the disease—that is my issue.
The relatives will still be there...we can wait...
You’re right. I apologize. When it comes to friendship, we happily do things that others might not understand.
Thank you for understanding. We’ve been friends for over 50 years. She stumbled on to her type of art as a way of dealing with her anxiety and depression. It is fun to hear be referred to as an artist. We are just everyday people going through life, and dealing with it as best as we can many times. I’m very proud of her for stepping out of her comfort zone and showing her work. It’s definitely something I don’t take the chance on with my creative endeavors.
The mask mandate was in place long before Biden was elected.
We simply live in a criminal society where crime is now perpetrated by this thing we call ‘government’.
Last I knew the US is still not releasing info on cases allegedly acquired while on an airplane.
That’s interesting, don’t you think? Their refusal to do so.
Hmmmm.....
They aren’t masks.
They’re muzzles.
You are a good friend. I know she appreciates your support.
...I believe it was required by the airlines though. Now they tell you it is Federal Law - look it up, this ‘Federal Law’ they reference ends with his EO. It’s one thing for a private firm to require it, another for POTUS to order it.
Thank you. I know she does. She and her family were like a second family to me for several years, until I went away to college. She was the first person I told about meeting the love of my life. In those days, we used snail mail. She kept that letter, and returned it to me when I told her 5 years later that we were engaged. I cherish our friendship that began when we were just 10 years old. Even if I have to put up with wearing a dreaded mask on that plane, there’s nothing that could stop me from being there to support her, short of illness or death. I just wish that there was no mask mandate for airplanes. This CoVid FearPorn has gone on long enough.
It's always been an FFA requirement.
Hope someone gets to the bottom of that.
Dude. I have had two dozen flights in the past 8 weeks. The biggest inconvenience is that they won’t give me cocktails. I’m resorting to taking the mini bottles on, which the FAA claims they will prosecute as well
So why the EO?
They also put non-mask-compliers on the no-fly list just like ISIS terrorists.
Of course not... It only applies to the serfs.
