Tony couldn’t have been a teenager in 1967, so the riots can’t be that big a part of the movie, I think it will mostly take place in the 1970s.

If Tony Soprano was 17 during the Newark race riots of 1967, he would have been born in 1950. The Sopranos was first aired 21 years ago, so the Tony character would have been 50 when the series started, and the children Meadow and AJ would have been born in Tony's late 30s. But Gandolfini was a decade too young.

You're right; it's about 5 to 10 years "off." Artistic license, or an attempt to be "woke", as others are worrying about upthread?

You’re correct. I was a little kid when the race riots occurred. I wonder who they will have playing Anthony Imperiales’s character.
Also, the riots weren’t limited to Newark, East Orange, Plainfield. Some small towns were also affected.
There are some places that never recovered all thanks to the race hustlers.

“Tony couldn’t have been a teenager in 1967”

Correct. In one episode an FBI agent asks Carmella if Tony knows anything about the Kennedy assasination and she replies Tony was 3 at the time.
