Isn’t it a bit hypocritical to support this policy while the national health care pays for treatment on the cancers and other diseases almost exclusively associated with tobacco smoking?
Believe me, there are some, including people who work in the medical field, who advocate that too. I just remind them of how much customs and excise duty gets paid on tobacco and alcohol which far outstrips the cost of treatment for drinking and smoking related illnesses in addition to National Insurance payments that everyone pays.
I also mention the fact that since they are likely to die earlier rather than live for decades after retiring and drawing their pensions, they are probably saving the NHS a fortune that way as well.
