These are the people held up as “heroes” for black kids: career criminals, gang members, people who resisted arrest and were subsequently shot, drug lords, etc. It is WAY past ridiculous, even laughable, that a career criminal and drug user, whose own actions led to his death, should be “memorialized” with a statue and a piece of public land to put it on. What disease did this bum cure? How many people did he save in an heroic dash to a burning car? What nefarious government policy did he enlighten the public against and take action to stop it? NONE OF THE ABOVE. They should melt down this pathetic statue and use the metal to make plumbing fixtures. At least they have a use.
Meanwhile people who have accomplished things have their history canceled because of something they allegedly said or did once upon a time.
Newark, if God gave the planet an enema, he would stick it in Newark. I lasted 8 years there as a street agent in the 60s and 70s. I see it has not changed much.
After the riots in the 60s, they leveled part of the central ward and turned it into a parking lot. I guess that is one way to rehab a city. Nuclear revitalization would have been better.
You are beginning to realize a lot of this is being done for the drug cartels.
