To: Does so

Yah, my first thought was “this has to be one of those black bears”, known for having retreated in the face of a pissed off domestic cat (I have videos). But, geesh, a brownie!
Yes, it wasn’t a monster. Still, my first thought would be toss a plant pot or rock.
Nervy broad. Good on her.
Way back, Dad driving family on vacation from Mo to relatives in Ca. Stopped in Yellowstone. Cars all over the place as there was a brownie with two cubs. Everyone gets their cameras. But, one Mom didn’t keep eye on 8-yr boy who wanted a better shot. He snuck up on cub and slapped it on the butt — SMACK!! Everyone froze, Mom grabbed chucklehead son and everyone ran for cars. It was like watching a pack of roadrunners in a cartoon for all the dust.

Was the little shiphead you write of, named Hunter B? For some people, ya just don’t grow out of stupidity.

Brown black bears are quite common.

This is a common Black Bear with fur that just happens to be colored brown, in other words, a Brown Phase Black Bear. Sometimes there are white-furred Black Bears, those are called “spirit bears.”

It is not a Brown Bear.
