If anyone deserves a “participation trophy,” it’s these people.

In USA tradition, any finisher of an ultra marathon (100+miles) gets a belt buckle. Many of these races have special belt buckles for multiple finishes, breaking a time barrier.
They even have an elusive “grand slam”. Finishing specific, multiple races, with extra bragging if accomplished in a single season.
They are an eclectic bunch, though no single stereotype would pigeon hole the entire group. Many appear as non-runner types.
The craziest thing to me, is that most races, the majority of the field finishes.
