It’s as bad as drinking and driving.

Actually they told us in Driver’s Ed that the majority of accidents happen within a few miles of one’s home.

They told me most accidents happen within a mile of my home. So I moved.

Which is why I almost only ride gravel, or trails.

IMO, it’s worse. The only difference is you can “sober up” instantly. But you can also “blow a .3” instantly.

“Yep, this could happen anytime you go out for a ride.”

Two of my friends died the same way. It’s a shame.

Steven Wright had the answer for this problem: Move farther away.

A five-year span on an age group? Geesh. Who is that supposed to protect/serve?
Lots of age groups, tho, does accomplish what the Oscars did; create loads of categories so everyone gets a prize! Kinda like a participation trophy.
Too bad about the lady jock, tho. Riding on a street is risky. She didn’t have a spotter? Bummer.

You have to be Complete NUTS to ride a bike on or near a road (bike lanes). All those idiots out driving around with the face planted in their smart phone.

when I see people riding bikes along side of the road I always shake my head and wonder what are they thinking.

If you want to ride a bike safely, move to the Netherlands. There you can ride shoulder-to-shoulder with a million other bikers.

I tried getting into biking in college. Bought a nice bicycle and rode it around the outskirts of town to train. But the truckers continually running me off the road by coming up behind me and veering into the breakdown lane made it unviable. They could have easily killed me; they thought that it was fun.

Legalized pot may be part of it. I think most of it is the huge numbers of drunk illegal aliens.

I won’t ride on the street anymore for the same reason. Just bike trails and sidewalks.

Texting for $500, Alex.

It's very dangerous. I have looked in my mirror stopped at a light seeing the person behind me approaching while looking down texting, not good.

I will only ride the bike on residential streets. Mostly I walk now. It requires less situational awareness.

The one time I was hit by a vehicle while cycling I was in a bike lane.

I stick to bikepaths, the ones separated from the roads.

Well, to be fair, it’s very flat in the Netherlands, which makes it a lot more pleasant. On the other hand, it’s almost always gray and misting, which isn’t great.

When I rode my mountain bike in traffic, I always used a mirror, and checked it constantly. I always knew what was coming up behind me, and was always prepared to pull far off the road and stop.

Mirrycle mirrors are good and are inexpensive. Just keep them adjusted.

https://www.amazon.com/Mirrycle-FBA_MI3002-2-Mountain-Bike-Mirror/dp/B000BR4NIC/

Be sure to use a mirror that will rotate out of the way without moving the handlebar if it is clipped by a car's rear view mirror as the car passes. A rigidly mounted mirror can kill you. You can adjust the tightness of the Mirrycle mirror so it rotates easily out of the way if hit.

I don't understand why bike mirrors are not more popular with non-racers. A tiny amount of weight, a tiny amount of air resistance, and a mirror can save your life. Talk about no-brainers!

Only the paranoid survive.
