Hawking argued that the universe as we perceive it is a mere shadow of the true reality that is perfect and eternal.

Sounds like a vision that is quite compatible with the Good Book.

By The Good Book, in this case, you mean Plato’s Dialogs? That is where the idea comes from, not the Bible. But most Protestant and Orthodox Christians think in a Platonic framework. RC follow Aristotle.

I read Hawkins book on time and it seemed like very clear common sense. If one could view the universe from afar,stuff would be happening and the relativistic effects upon viewers within the universe would be easy to understand.

Then on this “what the universe really is” stuff. Physicists for a long time have been running up against a wall they can’t see beyond, and their attempts at “explanations” become metaphysical and spiritual. It’s amazing they can make quotes like the ones in this article, without realizing they are saying the universe is the result of supernatural forces.

I’m not saying this as someone who just believes God explains everything. The scientists are saying it.
