On the fundamentals EVs are cheaper to build than ICE vehicles. The only reason they are expensive now is they are rare and boutique.

Once they become a mass produced the price will fall.

Nope, the battery is the major cost of the vehicle. It contains a lots of heavy, rare, expensive and dangerous components. According to newest greatest, it cost like $5000 for a gallon of gas equivalent.
You may save couple of hundred bucks a year on fuel. It will never pay back the purchase price difference.

And full of DOT requirements.

A small import pickup truck from the 70’s would cost $50K today due to that stuff. The materials cost between a small one and a full size one is relatively small.
