“BTW, it’s pronounced fa (like your ma, your pa... fa).”
Actually, its pronounced like fuh with a falling then rising tone.
You need some Chap Chae and Kimchi, to go with that.
(They are a lot more difficult to produce than the Bulgogi, though.)
I will try pretty much anything, and that has helped me broaden my horizons. She won’t. I slowly got her to eat Mexican food, but it has to be close to something she is used to. Asking her how she knows she won’t like something if she doesn’t try it doesn’t work. She is Serbian, but there are some Serbian dishes that she won’t eat but I will. There’s one thing that is like a gelatinous pork fat. It doesn’t look very appetizing but I really enjoy the flavor. She won’t touch it.
“Pho Pasteur in Boston ?”
Perhaps related to my favorite pho restaurant in Saigon - Pho Hoa Pasteur located on Pasteur Street in District 1 open 6 AM til midnight and always crowded, three floors.
Take her to a place that makes a really good Chile Relleno (with Poblanos, preferably.)
If she doesn’t fall for that, give up on Mexican.
Some phu is too bland....
That’s exactly what I’ve found.
Good idea. There’s a place we go to where she likes the carne asada but where I have had the chile relleno. Next time I’ll try to get her to have a taste.
Make sure they don’t sink it so much in the sauce that it loses all the outside crispiness :-)
Korean grocery store near me sells chap chae from time to time and kimchee all the time. They also have bibim vegetables and sauce already prepared (just fry up and add meat and rice). Love it when I can just buy the dried anchovies and jalapenos ready to go, or the pickled soybean sprouts ready to eat.
That sounds like five spice powder; I use it in every Chinese dish I make. It adds so much to the flavor.
It’s not your imagination. I used to frequent a VN restaurant in Sacramento and one in San Jose. Got the same looks on both places. I was a generous tipper and not a demanding customer. I finally stopped going to both when they were overrun with yutes that clearly were gang affiliated.
Been making home made Hot and Sour and Tom Yum Soup. Pho is a whole another animal to do it right do to the beef Bone broth. I’m not sure if buying off the shelf Bone broth would do it justice.
Thanks, that's gonna take some practice. First time I tried it I threw my hip out.
Some believe pho was an adaptation of the French one-pot beef and vegetable stew pot-au-feu, which shares a phonetic similarity to “phở”.

So someone is getting torqued off because a Vietnamese dish appropriated from the French is being appropriated?
I always wanted a noodle house/ sandwich place called pho burger, and sell shirts that say I ate at the pho burger..
I’m not sure if buying off the shelf Bone broth would do it justice.
NO
I would roast the marrow bones but it is not necessary.
