Yes! Find the best Vietnamese restaurant near you and get the pho to go. I don’t like to eat out at all-foreigner restaurants, myself. And that’s what all the pho joints here in the Sacramento area seem to be, very few Caucasians... They all sit there lookin’ at you like you’re the GI who napalmed their village. Maybe it’s just my imagination.
BTW, it’s pronounced fa (like your ma, your pa... fa).
Just had a bowl earlier this evening. Yum!
Pho is hit/miss. Some places are amazing, some you’d swear are housecat/shoe leather & you are spending the rest of the day in the bathroom.

Pho V’s in Bedford, TX has a very delicious version, but my palate isn’t as experienced in pho. I like Korean and Thai flavors a bit more.
You know what’s good? You know how you steam the top of a fried egg with water? Use soy sauce and dunk that yolks with a toasted bageeutt
Great story! Thanks for posting this. Here in Silicon Valley, we are never far from excellent Pho as well as outstanding Bahn Mi sandwiches. Vietnamese cuisine is excellent.
See if you can find a Vietnamese restaurant...you’ll love it! Also try the Bahn Mi sandwich.
: )
I prefer Thai flavors also...tom yum gai > pho (imo)
When I read the ingridients of cinammon, clove, anise etc. I thought it would be gross, but boy was I wrong. Probably the best soup in the world.
I just checked and there are a couple of places in my area. I was surprised because I don’t see that many Vietnamese around here. I teach ESL and have a few Vietnamese students in my class, so I’ll ask for a recommendation.
I’ve had Vietnamese once before when I was on the road. I don’t remember what I had, but I liked it.
I don’t see that many Vietnamese in my neck of the woods, but I checked and found a couple of places. I’m in, but I have to convince Mrs. SCR to go with me. She’s not very adventurous in regard to cuisine.
I love Pho and Vietnamese food!
A general rule of thumb I use for ethnic food: if there are very few Vietnamese in a Vietnamese restaurant the place isn’t very good.
Same with Indian etc.
If most of the diners and workers look like me ( pasty white dude ) there is a problem with the food.
My favorite place for Vietnamese is in Boston, survived the shutdowns and has a huge Vietnamese following. Lots of other folks in there too.
Pronounced “fuh” ....
I enjoy tom yum gai and tom kha gai as far as soups go and might have to agree with your assessment :) there are some good noodle dishes as well.
That is called Dink Sh**.
Niece really liked Viet food but suffered from gastrointestinal problems. Enough she went to the Doc regularly.
I asked her: Do you see a connection?
LOL! Sounds like what the Brits call ‘eggs and soldiers’...
